This is the best #backofatownhall ever ! Mainly because the then Emerald Hill Council leased an entire block that had been an orphan asylum on the eponymous hill, and put the hall in the middle, with axial streets front and back – most other town halls had to settle for corners or even mid blocks. Designed c1878 by #CharlesWebb, built 1879, and set the fashion for giant towered Italianate piles.
