Love the animals up here on the facade of the #QueenVictoriaMarket #MeatHall, some sheep and cows, live versions of the meat inside !
I’m told they were sculpted by #JohnSimpsonMcKennal, father of more famous #BertramMacKennal. I remember when they were painted up from the whole thing being whitish in the 90s (I think). Apparently a bit of a kerfuffle because probably not like that originally. Pretty sure designed by #WilliamSalway (checked, yes it was) in 1884 when the facade was added to the 1869 hall (don’t know what it looked like before). Last pic State Library, looks like 1920s, all one colour then.
