Ripponlea Railway Station, 1913

Rather nice for a train station, a lot like a late Edwardian house; #RipponleaStation was built 1912-13, and all the shops in #RipponleaVillage followed soon after. #PublicTransportVictoria threatened to demolish it in the 90s, claiming it was full of termites, too expensive, but thanks to heritage-minded then Transport Minister Allan Brown it was restored instead by 1999. Bits of it do look a bit wonky, but it hasnt fallen down.

I love these old railway #footbridges, all that no frills heavy timber construction, with a bit of bracing – though I see this one has steel too, the actual bridge part being on #haunched beams, with that annoying high solid fencing so you can’t linger and lean over to watch the trains (but was prob mostly so that you didn’t get smothered in smoke from steam engines).
