When the plans say ‘retain heritage building’ but they mean ‘retain two walls and the appearance of a heritage building’. Huge #studenthousing project on #SwanstonStreet, #Carlton, designed by @hayball_arch. The 3D rendering clearly implies it was more or less staying, but I’ve got the plans, and it’s clearly marked ‘retain this bit of wall demolish the rest’.
And then I walked past :
2021: it’s finished (but empty?) and from current streetview, at least it looks like a building again, with nothing popping out the top, and looks like it’s got common facilities in it, rather than squeezing in more students. Streetview :
Also, its a new residential college for #melbourneuniversity, called ‘little hall’, not cos it’s little but because the its part funded by a $30mill donation (!!), which will also fund 20 University students for the next 40 years, from Paul Little, ex Toll Holdings, and his wife Jane Hansen.
