Wandering through the streets of #SouthMelbourne I was rather surprised to see this sticking up way above the mostly single storey streetscape ! The #ShamrockHotel in Bank Street was built in 1889, and it’s unusual in a number of ways – 1. the scale, 2. It’s not on a corner and no wider than a double fronted house (the pub it replaced was apparently 4 rooms and timber) 3. It’s #QueenAnne when almost all pubs were classical and 3. Completely unaltered exterior (even the tiles are thought to be original) mostly ‘cos it was delisenced in 1924..l
Update 2024: it’s now used as offices, and inside there’s some great original bits, especially the stair, and some fireplaces.
