There’s a fantastic little precinct of mid century modern houses in Bellaire Court in Beaumaris, all developed by the same builder in a similar style, and the best news is the 8 houses were recommended for listing as part of the City of Bayside post was heritage review, approved by Council in July, now waiting for ministerial approval.
They were all built between 1962 and 1969 by Max Sachs, a postwar Polish emigre, who was a builder rather than an architect, and saw such potential in these lots created in 1959 that he bought most of them, then gradually built houses on them for sale. Not sure how many he built, but there’s 8 intact ones left, and they all share similar face bricks, flat roofs, integrated carports, big window/walls, some wedge shaped following the odd lot shapes.
First up is no 19, with real estate pics from 2022. So glad Bayside finally listed 45 mid century places, having started and stopped twice in the last 15 years, losing some on the way. But of course there’s still more of them…..

Another cute bit of #BeaumarisModern, 19 Bellaire Court, architect #MaxSachs, 1960s, a bit see-through ! Sachs did a number of houses in the Court. The photos inside are from when it was sold by an owner who loved it in 2016 to another mcm lover – thankfully, because only 2 Modernist houses in #Beaumaris are listed, and in the last 10 years 18 have been lost to town houses or minimansions bloody #cityofbayside !

Very Palm Springs ! But it’s 15 Bellaire Court, #Beaumaris, another house by #MaxSachs, but this one has the carport across the front, with a screen wall, and lots of desert plantings, giving it a very Palm Springs look.
