Architecturally not that notable old pub, though rather elaborate and intact, the #SpreadEagleHotel in #BridgeRoadRichmond is distinguished by it’s delightful pale yellow and white colour scheme, and the name – always thought rather odd, but seems in the 19thC it meant an Eagle with out-spread wings, like on many crests, not the shape you make when you fall down unexpectedly. Also, this pub a actually has its history written down ! – built in 1885, designed by German born architect #GABKoch (who did #Labassa) for Albert and Mary Allan (not Moran), who kept a pet eagle upstairs (!), they fought, then Albert went off with another woman, and Mary ran the pub without him for the next 22 years.
