Original post 13 October 2019, update 2024
I posted this in 2019 as ‘a lesser known #RobinBoyd’ at 1 #TheodoreCourt #Toorak, 1958. But a recent heritage review by @extentheritage states it was called Shere, and it’s by Roy Grounds, though they don’t say how they know – but they did find the sketch design at @rmitdesignarchives ! The first photo is c1958 from @library_vic., because trees. You can see it’s intact but the bricks rendered, ivy on the garden wall, and the timber painted. It’s a bit crazy, with that pointy prow, but it does a good job of #sunshading. It was sold late last year, the inside is even better and more intact ! The angular shapes in timber continue inside, opening up and out to that big window. It’s a small house really for a small plot, and he’s stuck to his wedge shaped geometries to the point that entry to the main bed is through the ensuite, but never mind. And that fireplace- it’s the NGV entrance, which Grounds designed a few years later! The kitchen is/was partly intact too, and curiously large. It already had interim heritage listing, which it seems the previous owners didn’t oppose, and the permanent one is just waiting on the Minister to approve. But it doesn’t include the interior, even though in this case exterior and interior are designed as one.

2024: DG Build sent me some photos of the renovations, they’ve taken the paint of the soffits and replacing the kitchen but otherwise looks intact 😊
