It’s not awful, kinda groovy actually, but this new thing in #CrossleyStreet replaced an 1880s warehouse, which had just been included in the adjacent #heritageprecinct in 2015; the @cityofmelbourne gave this a permit anyway because A. It had been abandoned and only the facade was left, and B the new design was ‘high quality and referenced the #midcenturymodern #SapphireHouse opposite’. But #facadism is ok everywhere else, so why not here ? And if you’re going to reference something, surely the red brick industrial of the rest of the #laneway, and #melbournelaneways in general, would be the way to go ? Not the end of the world, but I’m annoyed.
