The interior of #HamerHall is an odd combo of late 70s #SirRoyGrounds #brutalist #bushhammeredconcrete, with 1980 #JohnTruscott glam #goldleaf, #smokedglass, and leather walls, with a 2012 overlay by @armarchitecture of orange carpet, brass and angled escalators- and it works !

I remember seeing this #goldleaf at the entrance to #HamerHall being applied in 1981 ! I was a bit surprised how glam it was.

Sorry they filled in the first light well, so the crazy hanging Perspex chandelier thing (it had a name – ‘Arcturus’) wouldn’t fit any more. Said to be in storage now. I’m not sure I liked it.

I was told that originally the budget for the #HamerHall refurb in 2011 didn’t stretch to repainting the #JohnTruscott mineral layers effect on the required acoustic layer that was going to be added to the walls, but in retrospect they wouldn’t have just left it white, would they ? Love the orange seats and the #stalactite lights too. Full orchestra and big choir for #VerdisRequiem (thanks Grant). @ Hamer Hall Arts Centre Melbourne

#Goldleaf and orange,a great combo. So glad they kept in fact increased the amount of glitz at #HamerHall; #ARMarchitects in 2012 on top of #JohnTruscott 1981 bling on top of #SirRoyGrounds 1975 #brutalist conc. @ Hamer Hall Arts Centre Melbourne
