#YuleHouse, designed by #OakleyAndParkes, was built in 1932, in the depths of the #GreatDepression, because the previous building burnt down, and the insurance paid out. Sometimes said to be the first #ArtDeco building in Melb, it’s the first fully Art Deco complete with speed lines, deco lettering and stepped bits, but Coles in Bourke Street was finished the year before, with lots of Jazz Modern detailing, but also Georgian windows.
It’s also very very intact, even the shop fronts (except one curved glass corner). Ps look no cars – there was one, with the driver waiting for someone I suppose, even though No Standing Sign, and a parking guy told him to move on just as I was leaving, and voila !
