Does anyone like this thing, in #BourkeHill ? I guess I dislike with extra sauce because I vaguely always knew it shouldn’t have happened. Built 1983, it unfortunately snuck in just before the precinct was #heritagelisted, replacing a bunch of Victorian shop/terraces, the biggest ones actually part of the #WilliamAngliss meat supply empire that started off in this area – theres one blurry @nationaltrustvic photo of them, and two excellent ones from 1959 from @museumsvictoria. Architecturally, it has Brutalist forms but late modern 80s slick finishes, but not a good example of either. There’s a nice little courtyard and some of the flats are big, and I guess it was right at the beginning of building flats in the city. All other images from the internet.

The comments on Insta when reposted in 2024 were surprisingly even – 6 liked it, 7 didn’t. I think I like it even less now.
