I posted about the threat to this great little place in #AlbertParkVillage two years ago; it’s a cute doctors surgery and flats built in 1934 around an 1895 house (B&W pic). In the 90s to 2016 film director Paul Cox lived and worked here. It was proposed to be replaced by a particularly dull apartment project.
With strong local objections, it went to VCAT, and they ‘won’, but only that the new design wasn’t good enough. Unfortunately the Port Phillip #heritageguidelines have an out clause, if you can show the place is ‘unsound’, and they had two engineers and a heritage architect saying it’s full of cracks, we’d have to largely demolish and rebuild, which VCAT accepted.
So in Feb a new design went to Council, the planners said ‘it’s ok’, council voted against, but it will go VCAT again, which will say fine, go ahead, which means it will be demolished.

July 2025
Covid intervened, so it wasn’t demolished until 2024, project just starting now; it was going to be flats, but it’s up for lease as offices, to be completed in 2026.
