Polychrome Church, 1874

Repost this day 2018: #PolychromeBrick – how to do a lot with a little. A hall-like church with a lot going on in just the front wall; various elements thrust forward slightly, and outlined in special notched #voussoir bricks in two colours, and two different arches too. #MethodistChurch in #NicholsonStreet #NorthFitzroy, built 1874, designed by #TerryandOakden, part of a trend in the early 1870s from two colour brickwork to full-on polychrome #GothicRevival, carrying on the pioneering work of Joseph Reed’s Independent Church (now St Michaels Collins Street), 1866-7.

Also, amazing how much my iPhone camera pics up in early evening overcast light, with a bit of ‘ambience’ editing too.
