Rosenberg’s Shoes, Chapel Street

Original post 23 February 2018:

Rosenberg’s Shoes, probably one of the oldest businesses in the same shop in Melbourne (and oldest altogether, starting in 1903, though the 1894 Hopetoun Tearooms is older, current location from 1907), and definitely one of the prettiest most delightful #shopwindows in Melbourne. They’re now into the fourth generation running the shop, which has specialised in larger sizes or unusual shapes for a long long time. They’ve been here in Chapel Street since at least 1915 (earliest newspaper ref I could find) and there’s no specific heritage study (though it is #heritagelisted) so I can’t tell you when the shop front was built, but it looks very 1910s, while the signage could be 30s or even 50s.
