Squeezy Deco in St Kilda

Squeezy Deco in St Kilda

30 May 2024

An uncomfortable juxtaposition on Fitzroy Street St Kilda. But actually if you step back you can see they carved a gap out of the huge apartment block built next door (2000s?), so the flats wouldn’t look too much at blank walls. Not exactly elegant though. It’s a blank wall at the other end, but only 3 floors. The flats are called Lynbrae, built 1938, great Art Deco lines, with a garden setback and rounded corner windows, and the ones facing the gap are bedrooms, so not too bad. It was built in a rather squeezy way itself, with two narrow blocks, the flats behind the front ones looking straight at each other. Advertised at the time as bachelor flats; that front bedroom is tiny !
