I’ve seen a LOT of old photos of Melbourne but there’s still plenty of buildings I’ve never seen – this is another photo from the Communications Museum collection, via @bigstachebearau, from the back of the roof of the 1930s Little Bourke Street Telephone Exchange, showing a cute little office block on the ne corner of Queen Street and Little Bourke, probably 1950s. The photo is late 50s I think, you can see 100 Collins built in 1955 in the distance but no other skyscrapers. There’s also a nice little Deco pub, probably a makeover of a Victorian one. Both long gone. That’s all I know ! Update : @jdflemington, a more dedicated researcher than me, has found that it was built in 1959 for VACC Insurance, and designed by Gawler Churcher & Blackett.
