28 December 2018 updated 2024:
All that’s left of the 1927 TB Clinic in #LittleLonsdaleStreet near Queen- I meant to get photos before demolition but too late ! Don’t know why this bit still there, are they going to leave it as a ruin in the plaza ? Don’t think that’s a good idea. It was designed by the PWD under E Evan Smith in a restrained Georgian style, with that ‘Rod of Asclepius’ medical symbol in the pediment. A permit to demolish was issued in 2012 for a ‘vertical campus’ for Victoria University, designed by @jacksonarchitecture. A bit squishy I think – wouldn’t get a permit now ! The site also includes the even more significant 1919 Womens VD Clinic, which was recommended for heritage listing in 2011, they were going to demolish that too, now they’re keeping the facade and a bit of side wall.
Update: a photo from 2022 I’ve borrowed by @mclaughlanstephen shows that what they actually built was something of an improvement on the permitted design.
