A wander round Kensington – the gigantic Allied Pinnacle flour mill near Kensington Station began here as Kimptons in 1887, as seen in an undated photo from their website. That must be before it was largely destroyed in a huge fire in 1904, depicted in a news article I found in the @cityofmelbournelibraries.
Looks like they rebuilt on the middle section, the rest was rebuilt differently- the big red brick building looks 1920s to me. There also another huge modern building, plus two sets of silos, and it’s still milling flour – my local contact says the wheat comes by train, and leaves as flour and bakery ingredients in trucks.
It doesn’t appear to be heritage listed, and I can see why not, but it is impressive. I’m told it was proposed to be listed then dropped, I can also see why.
