I really don’t know what I think about this – amusing, weird, pretentious yet striking ….. it’s on the corner of High St and Glenferrie Road Armadale, called The Sun and the Moon, by Paul Juraszek, and dates from 1989.
The @nationaltrustvic citation notes that “In size, cost, prominent position and provocative subject matter it is the most adventurous sculpture commission yet given by any subruban council in Melbourne. In a fascinating way the sculpture also reveals the political attitudes of the period. The artist originally proposed only one male figure – the Mayor Janice Carpenter requested the inclusion of a female figure, and the artist was requested to make it of equal height.”
No mention of the buns or the smiling lion.

The leaf arrangement in front of the male was not part of the original design.
