I thought all the tiles at Richmind Station were 50s band-aid pink, but no they’re in five different colours (I didn’t get the blue one). It’s so very grungy and plain, the only nice thing is the tiles – but a lady stopped to say to me that it was great, and she hoped they never changed it ! ‘It’s like a London tube station’.
It was completed in 1960, when it was rebuilt to 10 platforms from 6 and moved closer to the MCG, and those really chunky black trusses were thrown across Swan Street (it was a level crossing until 1885!). It’s barely changed, jogging memories of trying to get home to East Camberwell in the 80s and you had to rely on announcements (or was it signs?), which sometimes sent you to one platform, then back again.
There’s often talk of rebuilding or building over but really it just needs a roof and maybe a bridge exit to the MGG that goes over Brunton Ave, but fitting it all in with ramps and lifts would be hard.
