Malvern Station, 1913, built at the same time as Glenferrie Station posted a few weeks ago, but that one looked much nicer somehow – this one certainly hasn’t seen paint for a while, and lots of extra tubes everywhere. The one really nice bit is the curly grill over the down platform entrance. It’s an exact match for Toorak and Armadale Stations, and almost a match for Camberwell Station, built a bit later, but there the rough cast isn’t painted, and the rest is painted nicer colours.

The new stations were all part of regrading works to eliminate level crossings in the fast growing middle suburbs. In this case there’s four platforms, allowing for express and country services, and separate the Dandenong and Frankston lines.

Toorak Station, 1913, pretty much exactly the same as Malvern Station, the same generous proportions and weather cover, but nicer – I think because better colours and more recently painted. This one is all cream, with Indian Red details, the other cream white and green and worn and dusty. Both are on the Heritage Register, but not the exactly matching Hawksburn or Armadale or the closely matching Camberwell, maybe they were slightly more altered, but I can’t see any changes to speak of.
