Faces to the names – three of the most prolific architects of the interwar years in cartoon form – Harry Norris (Nicholas Building, Coles, Majorca, Mitchell House), Marcus Barlow (Manchester Unity, Century House), and Kingsley Henderson (who doesn’t get any listed but did all the T&G Buildings, National Bank HQ Collins St). They don’t say a lot but do list their schools, clubs and home addresses! These are photocopies I’ve had for 30 years I think, don’t know where from but I’d guess the Royal Victorian Architects Institute journal, probably early 30s since they don’t list the later Deco stuff.
Update : they’re from a book ‘500 Victorians’ published in 1934, prompted by the Centenary of Victoria, There’s a few more architects, Charles Serpell of Sydney Smith Ogg & Serpell (Port Authority, many pubs), Horace Mackennal (Comm Public Works, so Mail Exchange, Spencer Street, various Post Offices), Phillip Hudson of Hudson & Wardrop, whose Shrine had just been opened, and newly appointed chief of the PWD, Percy Everett (who also liked to golf, paint, and play a bit of music).
