Cute little bluestone warehouse in Little Collins Street near Spencer, dating from 1865. There are other early warehouses but mostly the more pretentious sort – this one is just plain rough bluestone, with a gable roof, the only nice details the quoining, that bullseye window, and the tuck pointing (which maybe came later). The front looks pretty intact, judging from the 1965 photo.
It goes back half way down the block, and it’s even intact inside, with the big timber trusses above the partitions. It’s now some kind of start-up, with a little busy cafe, and seats in the sunshine thanks to St Augustine and its church yard across the street to the north.
