Spotted out the windows of #MyersMelbourne Menswear on the 4th floor – the ‘drum clock’, placed there with the Bourke Street frontage, completed 1934. So, like the building, I presume it was designed by #TompkinsAndTompkins. It’s got cute Art Deco stepped details you can see close up. It’s pretty big but it’s still not big enough to make much of an impression from ground level.
And now that I look at my pics of the Lonsdale Street side from 2014, I see theres one there too ! That side was built 1926, but the clock is even more Deco, so must have been added later. Apparently ‘drum’ refers to the shape, not that it makes a sound like one.
