#FabulousFacade to a shop in #ChapelStreetPrahran, so vertical and spiky, with lashings of #ArtNouveau; sadly some of the (red?) tiles falling off, the rest painted out beige. Can’t find much about it, but looks c1910; in 1905-8 there was an #OysterSaloon, raided for gambling, and for “horribly offensive” oysters (!), then by 1912 it was #Boberski’s high class grocer and wine shop, still there in 1937, and then in the 70s it was a Franeva’s specialist wine shop, which closed in 1977.
Updates 2024: I’m told that the facade was intact in the 70s, and the tiles were blue. A follower also pointed out it has tiny devils heads in the decoration, as well as excellent Art Nouveau tendrils with gum leaves and gum nuts peeking through. I think it’s a a kebab shop now.
