These are the #oldlifts at the #HotelWindsor, prob from the 1920s but nobody seems to know. Im fascinated by the twisted, woven and curled #wroughtiron screen; theres only one other I know of in central Melbs (the #birdcagelift at 107 Flinders Lane). This one a bit more refined, with the decorative solid panel interiors (ignore the 80s ‘regency’ wallpaper !). They’ve been set up as telephone kiosks, now writing rooms, for as long as I can remember. (and yes I’m also wondering what ever happened to the windsor redevelopment??).
Note @harperandcharlie says that the Melb Club lift has exactly the same lift enclosures, so that one must be 20s too. Or they’re both c1905.
