Not a bad example of heritage+high rise, I suppose it helped the original building only half the site – anyway, it’s not totally dominated by the new (which is a big hulking though, by #ChTarchitects). Not sure they’ve kept anything more than two and a bit walls, and one roof truss which sits in the foyer, but better than most. Some flats are two level and face the south brick wall, so not much light, I would have been ok with putting some windows in that wall, not a huge change, and in return kept something if the actual building not just the external walls. I wonder if that’s an office behind the ground level gothic windows ? I can’t find any info about #HerbertKing but it looks 1920s to me, and they’re still going, in Ashburton.
