System Garden, Melbourne University

This curious tower thing at #MelbourneUniversity is a remnant of an even more curious c1875 octagonal #greenhouse, which was the centrepoint of the #systemgarden, laid out in 1856; a system garden is essentially a botanical sampler. It was originally about 7.5 hectares, only 2 are left now, and it’s more like a delightful park, with only the first circular path still evident.

The Masterplan from 2018 shows the intention is to rebuild part of the circular garden, but no action yet it seems.
