This strip of mostly low scale heritage places on the west side of Elizabeth Street was added to the 40m (10 storey) central retail #heightlimit district in 2017. Then in 2019, the buildings were doubly protected by becoming a #heritageprecinct as part of the hardware lane review. Just in time too, with a proposal last year for a development on top of the Peter Stevens motorcycle shop, so they had to preserve the facade at least and keep it under 10 floors.
Looks like the Peter Stevens development isnt going ahead, since the three buildings are now for sale ‘as one lot or individually’. Mind you out of all the awful things that have got permits in recent years, this wasnt the worst, and some of the others are still going ahead. Nice to think though that the rough concrete beams and parquetry floors inside will stay for the forseeable future.
