5 September 2017:
Fabbo #terracepair on Royal Parade, Parkville, built 1888 (peak of the #landboom) with a wealth of crunchy detail, never painted. The distinctive elements like the wheeled #scrolledbrackets on the #parapet and the stumpy columns look very much like the work of builder/designer #NormanHitchcock. Love the grimacing lions. They’re also the relatively rare type of double level inset verandahs, with the parapet right on the street, rather than having attached verandahs. The wall behind upstairs is strangely devoid of detail, must have been removed at some point. Now used as the #EarlyMusicStudio of the #MelbourneConservatorium.
Update : the left hand one was sold by the University in 2021 (interior pics) and now offices, the right hand one still used by the uni I think.
