Boyd going Georgian, 1953

Repost 2019:

So while #RobinBoyd was doing crazy experiments with thin steel, timber trusses, shell concrete etc in the early 1950s he also did this ! Modern Georgian. Built in 1953 for the Bretts, in #Toorak of course, on a tiny little street almost on the river called Buddle Drive. It had chain balustrades originally, changed to actual balustrades in 1960. I went looking for it while searching out places in Toorak that arnt #heritagelisted – and just now found out it’s been accepted for the #VictorianHeritageRegister ! I guess anything by Boyd is important, but it seems they like it cos they havnt listed any Modern Georgian yet. This one is pretty intact, the door still there behind the screen, the odd planters gone, but inside apparently only the bathroom changed, even the kitchen still intact !

2021 update : officially added to the register Jan 2020.
