Dalcrombie, Olinda, 1939.

Repost 2017: A stylish movie set ? No, it’s a house in Olinda ! #Dalcrombie, 1939, was designed by #JEsmondDorney, who also did many Deco flats in Elwood. So many projecting #semicircular elements, a fave feature of Dorney’s work, sticking out from the flat roofed main rectangular volume, on different levels and wildly cantilevered; the lounge also has huge long windows with only a corner post. The beauty of #reinforcedconcrete. Along with Burnham Beeches also in the Dandemongs, and Carlaminda in Toorak, one of the best Art Deco mansions in Victoria. The biggest lower projecting one is however a matching 80s addition. The first photo is everywhere, the rear are ealestate photos from 2003 (cant believe they’re still there or Pinterest, or from an #artdecoandmodernismsociety visit during a sale in 2007 via Flickr.
