Remember the huge fuss about demolishing the Art Deco #LonsdaleHouse back in 2010 ? For that glassy thing on the left, which they said they absolutely had to have to make #TheEmporium viable? They also facaded the three other buildings on their site, and these two came up rather well, albeit with black glass disguising the floor levels cutting through the windows. Both designed by #NahumBarnet within a year of each other. The skinny Slatters building on the right came first #1892 and the wider Clarkes building in #1893. Both a bit #queenannestyle but slatters wonderfully squeezed with slim #piers leading up to mad efflorescence of the detail rich top floor and vertiginous #dutchgable. @ Emporium Melbourne
