It was a genius move to fill the windows of #StPatricksCathedralMelbourne with #amberglass, a lovely soft glow. I’d also forgotten how huge it is inside, and how gorgeous the #painteddecoration, shiny brass, carved altars etc. Restrained for a Catholic Church, but that’s what #WilliamWardell was all about. @ St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne

A design for the forecourt of St Patricks Cathedral by Angelo Candelapas – its quite restrained, incorporating ramps either side, a nice idea. It looks like new plain paving instead of the bunjil /aboriginal pattern, which I think is a bit busy anyway. The ramps have a permit already, along with external and internal restoration.
The Candelapas images also show a new building to the right, for gatherings etc, which I don’t mind, though I suspect it’s rather big, but hasn’t got a permit as yet. The pics also imply removing the fence from the front, which I’m in favour of, it’s an unnecessary barrier. It’s not ‘original’, that is not there until maybe the late 1890s or later.
I actually think they should go further and take over the road lane in front, which isn’t needed for traffic, remove the random and recent tree in the traffic island, and create a more impressive forecourt and viewing angle 😊
