The London Hotel in #ElizabethStreet was built in 1911, and was designed by the rather prolific #NahumBarnet; even though it’s a jaunty Edwardian with Flemish gables and interesting cast iron, I’ve never really taken much notice, maybe cos it’s a bit dominated, and all one colour. Havnt researched it, except to find a postcard from maybe 1950 which shows the lower part on the right was extended in matching style at some point between then and a photo from 1972, which is surprising (last 2 photos). I do however remember its last days in the 80s when it had a rather good 70s space age bar, with silver walls and craters in the ceiling. Then it closed, the upper floors locked away for ever I thought, but got added to a bit (well setback) and reopened as a #Formule1 hotel in about 2005. Now it’s an Ibis.
