Mon Reve, by fave architect #IGAnderson, 1937, Hamden Road, Armadale. Another one of the few 30s Modernist houses in Melb, though leaning heavily to Art Deco too. Been meaning to see it for ages – disappointing that there was a great big skip and tree right in front ! 2nd image from @geoffreygoddardphotography much better.
It’s been very done over before, whole right hand wing new I think, I imagine the windows are new, looks like it had panels of brick originally, and not sure about the fence, seems too curly for Anderson, but might be original. Only the stair seems to be original inside.
Contemporary news reports call it ‘ultra modern Continental design’, with was a ballroom upstairs, and under the concrete tower was a bomb shelter (!).
