Charsfield, St Kilda Road, 1889, designed by #CharlesWebbArchitect for Alfred Hodgson, who ran successful men’s wear business. This one built a bit closer to the street than others, and looks like the middle bit should have had a tower. It’s one of the 13 mansions left on St Kilda Road and Queens Road, and like almost all the others has recently lost its rear wing to make room for a tower, this one much too close; it looks ok close up but just step back a bit and the gold scoop behind is distracting rather than complimenting, not to mention the tower, which is by @rothelowman in their Zaha Hadid style. In fact on second thoughts I don’t like it at all.
It was a boutique hotel before this, and a guest house before that. I’m told it has a grand staircase, and presumably some nice rooms now function spaces, only found one pics.
