Charsfield, St Kilda Road

Charsfield, 1889, designed by #CharlesWebbArchitect for Alfred Hodgson, who ran successful men’s wear businesses. This one built a bit closer to the street than other mansions, and looks like the middle bit should have had a tower. It’s one of the 13 mansions left on St Kilda Road and Queens Road, and like almost all the others has recently lost its rear wing to make room for a tower, this one by @rothelowman in their Zaha Hadid style. It looks ok close up but the gold scoop behind is a bit distracting rather than complimenting. It’s now a hotel with function rooms in the mansion.
