The delightfully elaborate Spanish style Royce Hotel on St Kilda Road was built in 1928 as the #KellowFalkiner car showrooms. It was designed by Harry Norrus, and was actually a rebuild of an old cable car engine house, which he did again in the early 30s with the Capital Bakeries, Toorak Road (dem). Fabulous high arched roof, only part visible, after removing part of the extra floor put in in the 1950s, which also unfortunately involved removing some of the external decorative terra cotta to insert windows. Became the Royce (as in Rolls) Hotel in about 2005.
