Warehouse later Ryzman & Co, Flinders Lane

Original post March 2016:

A remarkable survivor, an 1850s #warehouse in the eastern end of #flinderslane in chunky #renaissancerevival style, love the #rustication. Designed (probably) by #RobertsonandHale, 1857, for Levy Brothers. There’s a very faint #ghostsign for Higson & Son; that side is #HigsonLane (which wasn’t named until the 1920s). In the 30 years I’ve been passing by (I had a studio nearby early 90s) I’ve only seen the door open once and an old man going in – there (was) another ancient fading sign that said Ryzman & Co, now mostly painted over – perhaps I saw Mr Ryzman ? Photos of the side, sign and stair from #heritagevictoria.
