This quirky thing is on Eildon Road St Kilda on a triangular block that was created in 1921, so it must date from that decade, with all those shingles, rough cast, and that cute bracketed out window, which the heritage study calls it ‘bizarre styling’. Also, has looked the same ever since I’ve known it.
Thought it was a house, but no it’s flats, in fact four of them! Which must have had stuff added because there’s various rooms with no windows. It was sold in 2024, but nothings changed, the fence is still about to fall over. The house on the other triangular block is more ordinary and l presume those tall windows aren’t original.

It’s a nice looking block, typical of the area. I note the agent name in the photos is Gary Peer. I cast my mind back to the 90s when we bid on house in East St Kilda with Peer turning up as a buyer advocate wearing a clown mask and interrupting the auction. As a buyer advocate, his extreme behaviour did his clients not well, as to my horror, my partner kept bidding higher and higher to an absurd level, in anger against his antics. Finally I tugged my partner’s arm and he stopped bidding, meaning the buyers paid a far higher price than they would have if they hadn’t employed Peer, and three months later, I left a note in the new owners’ letter box telling them so. Peer is an atypical crook real estate agent, one who gives the industry such a bad name.
